The Signal Box has 47 levers which were originally connected by rods and cables to the signals and points in the station area, ensuring safe operation for through trains as well as goods trains using the sidings on both the 'up' and 'down' sides of the main line.
Until its closure at the end of October 2024, signallers were still using a small number of the 1895-vintage levers to signal trains through the station – but by this stage the connection to points and signal was electrical.
As we develop the Signal Box into a working museum, we are offering you the opportunity to sponsor one of these historic levers. Your sponsorship will be displayed on a metal plate – in keeping with the function labels on each lever – to demonstrate to everyone entering the Signal Box your commitment in helping to protect our railway heritage.
We are asking for a minimum five-year sponsorship of £100 per lever: greater generosity would, of course, be much appreciated. If you are a UK taxpayer we can claim a further 25% on your sponsorship from HMRC if you fill in the Gift Aid form.
Your generosity will help us to save Haslemere SIgnal Box for future generations to enjoy – and how mechanical signalling helped to ensure railway safety and reliability.
